Skiing is a sport that is played during the winter Olympics and was not played in the first Olympics in Athens, Greece. The Olympics is an interesting event because it spurred the onset of the modern Olympics, and because skiing is an awesome sport to watch and to participate. First, the modern Olympics were an event brought back from ancient Greeks. The modern Olympics was started 1896 and at that event they played many games such as fencing, shooting, swimming, and gymnastics ("history.com"). This is very important that they started it because of how popular the Olympics are today. When the man who invented the Olympics was thinking how to make the French army stronger he said to himself “let’s play sports” and five years later it became the Olympics and started in 1896(Guttmann). This is a great idea made up by a young French Man is now one of the biggest events in the world. In the first modern Olympics 280 participants of 13 nations in the Olympics of 2000 had nearly 10,000 athletes ("history.com"). The Olympics has come a long way since the first modern Olympics. The Modern Olympics is very important to the world because it is a huge gathering for many countries. Next, Skiing is an event with various types that is performed on slopes covered in snow or just plain flat snow. Skiing is a very exciting when watching and the skiers flying down the slopes and land it with a huge trick. Every few the U.S. ski team heads out to Vail, Co and practices as a team and then names who made the team and what they will be participating in the next Olympics even though it will be challenging cause Switzerland is most likely to win(“About.com”). U.S has a very good ski team and they could possibly win the winter Olympics in the ski category. In the last hundred years Norway holds most of the records for skiing (various). They have been a power house in skiing since the Olympics have started. For the U.S. they will want Jimmy Cochran for the men and Stacey Cook For the women to lead them to the medals (“About.com”).These member of the U.S. ski team are highly favorable to do well in the 2014 competitions. Skiing is an awesome winter Olympic sport. Skiing is an awesome sport to do and watch. Finally, The Olympics is a wondrous event and will be another huge event in 2012 and 2014.
